Warner Robins, Georgia – In observance of National Forensic Science Week (NFSW), which runs from September 15 to 21, 2024, the Warner Robins Police Department is proud to highlight the accomplishments of its Forensic Laboratory team. NFSW is an annual event celebrated across the nation to honor forensic science professionals and to raise awareness of the critical role they play in the criminal justice system.
The Warner Robins Forensic Laboratory is among the elite group of only four state laboratories in Georgia to have received ANAB ANSI National Accreditation, joining the ranks of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory, and Atlanta Police Department Crime Laboratory. Accredited in June 2021, the lab currently holds accreditation in toxicology, reflecting its dedication to maintaining the highest standards in forensic science.
The laboratory provides a wide array of essential services, including crime scene investigations, latent prints and impressions, digital forensics, marijuana identification, toxicology, and drug identification—a specialized discipline handled by the lab's chemists. The lab plans to expand its offerings in 2025 by adding firearms and tool marks examinations.
The Forensic Laboratory team consists of 11 members, including 8 specialized analysts—4 in crime scene investigations, 1 latent print examiner, 2 chemists specializing in drug identification and toxicology, and 1 digital forensics examiner. When including contractors, the total team numbers 13 professionals. Together, they work diligently to process and analyze evidence that is vital to the criminal justice system.
This year, the lab has already worked on 38 crime scenes, with a total of 66 crime scenes processed in 2023. Crime scene investigations, highlighted as one of the most straightforward yet critical services, are a key focus area. For those interested, a detailed report of the lab's statistics from the previous year is available.
Beyond their technical roles, the analysts frequently provide expert testimony in courts of law and serve as adjunct instructors at local, state, and federal levels, sharing their expertise with aspiring forensic professionals.
As National Forensic Science Week approaches, the Warner Robins Police Department proudly celebrates the dedication and exceptional service of its Forensic Laboratory team.
