City of Warner Robins Receives EPA Brownfields Grant for Commercial Circle Redevelopment and Cleanup

WARNER ROBINS, GA — The City of Warner Robins is proud to announce that it has been selected by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to receive a $1 million Multipurpose Grant. This prestigious selection highlights the city's commitment to environmental stewardship and economic revitalization of Downtown Warner Robins.

The grant will focus on the redevelopment and cleanup of the Commercial Circle area, a key project aimed at transforming brownfield sites into productive, community-enhancing spaces. Brownfields are properties where the presence or potential presence of hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants may complicate their expansion, redevelopment, or reuse.

"We are thrilled to receive this EPA Brownfields Grant," said Mayor LaRhonda W. Patrick. "This funding will enable us to address environmental issues and reawaken the Commercial Circle area, ultimately benefiting the entire community both environmentally and economically."

The City of Warner Robins was commended by EPA for submitting an outstanding application, showcasing our comprehensive plan and a dedicated vision for the future. The EPA's Brownfields Program, established in 1995, has been instrumental in helping states, Tribal Nations, and communities clean up and revitalize brownfield sites, thus fostering sustainable development and economic growth.

The grant will support a variety of activities, including environmental assessment, cleanup planning, community engagement, and site redevelopment. These efforts are expected to spur economic development, create jobs, and improve public health and the environment.

"We deeply appreciate the grant from the Environmental Protection Agency." said Kate Hogan, Director of Community and Economic Development. "The City of Warner Robins' has had a significant barrier to entry in our redevelopment plans with the environmental concerns identified. This grant will act as a catalyst for us to ensure we responsibly redevelop Commercial Circle."

The EPA's selection of Warner Robins underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable community development. The city's leadership and proactive approach serve as a model for other communities striving to achieve similar goals.
