Operation Lay It Down is a proactive initiative aimed at reducing gun violence in the Houston County community. This collaborative effort, spearheaded by the Warner Robins Police Department and various local partners, acknowledges the pain and suffering that gun violence inflicts on victims and their families.

This event offers Heads of Households, Parents, and responsible adults an anonymous opportunity to turn in firearms they may have found that do not belong in their homes. Understanding the dilemmas individuals face when discovering such firearms, Operation Lay It Down ensures that participants can safely surrender these weapons without fear of legal repercussions.

“By providing a safe space for our community members to turn in unwanted firearms, we hope to prevent potential tragedies and reduce the number of stolen firearms that can lead to crime,” said Warner Robins Police Chief Wayne Fisher. “Our goal is to promote safety and awareness while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners.”

Mayor LaRhonda Patrick emphasized the community’s role in this effort, stating, “Operation Lay It Down is a critical step toward fostering a safer environment for all our residents. By addressing gun violence head-on, we can create positive change and protect our neighborhoods.”

The Warner Robins Police Department will hold an anonymous firearm collection event on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Perkins Park in Warner Robins. Law enforcement will securely handle all surrendered firearms, with the goal of returning any stolen items to their rightful owners.
